Competition Brief & Overview

Design a small museum or exhibition pavilion (max 150 m²) in Copenhagen, Denmark that displays art, ideas, or local stories in a creative way. Participants may choose any realistic urban site within Copenhagen, such as harbor promenades, civic parks, or revitalized industrial spaces. The design must include five primary zones: a flexible gallery space, a narrative alcove for digital content, a welcome and curatorial hub, a public threshold/veranda, and a service core with storage and restroom. Participants define their own curatorial focus, whether contemporary Nordic craft, maritime history, climate innovations, or community storytelling. The pavilion must demonstrate material honesty, thoughtful daylight integration, and welcoming public accessibility. Design constraints emphasize circular construction principles, locally sourced materials suited to the Nordic climate, and modular spatial flexibility for rotating exhibitions. Universal barrier-free access is mandatory. The architecture should act as an exhibit itself, bridging civic space and curatorial storytelling. Submissions consist of one A1 presentation board in PDF format.
