Brusnika announces an open architectural competition for the best public toilet design for Novosibirsk. Participants are invited to propose innovative concepts for public restrooms at three locations in Brusnika's residential quarters: Eurobereg (Ob River embankment), Gorod-na-ozere (Lake Verkhovoye embankment), and Aviator (Artemyev Square). The designs should be year-round facilities that account for Novosibirsk's long, dark, and cold winters. Projects must be recognizable architectural landmarks, similar to The Tokyo Toilet project, while remaining functional, easy to maintain, and vandal-resistant. Participants can submit proposals for one, two, or all three locations with unlimited entries per participant. Each submission should include a one-page presentation with project description, main concept, site integration, visualization, and technical drawings (plan, elevations, section) in PDF format. Additional materials such as models are optional. The jury will evaluate originality, aesthetics, urban context compatibility, additional functions, and ease of maintenance. Three winners will be selected, one for each location, and their designs will be constructed by Brusnika.
Prize fund of 1 million rubles to be divided among three winners (one for each location). Each winner will have their name displayed on a commemorial plaque on the constructed toilet, receive an invitation to Novosibirsk for the opening ceremony, and get mentions in Brusnika's social media and partner channels.
